The Themes Listing (TV and Cartoon Themes are on-line now)

1. "I did not get the theme I asked for"

The request form is dead and will remain so. Thank you spamming scum who destroyed a good thing. All TV Themes are now on-line for your downloading. 2. "You did not reply to my 'I want' message"

a. Messages are topping 250,000 per day quite often now. Of that, on average, 85% are requests for themes and 10% (or 2,500) are 'Themes Wanted'. I have a real life and don't have time to answer 2,500+ per day. Rest assure that I will check it out. If a theme, it will be on the 'want-list sooner or later.

b. Check the want list(s) - Don't bother sending a request for something that is on there.

c. I only deal in themes - or 'should have been a theme' music (like Kokomo) so asking for the entire soundtrack of your favorite movie will be ignored as will asking for the lastest top 40 hit.

d. Due to the massive volume of requests, I cannot send a file once it is found (or made). Make it a point to check the Theme Listing Update at least monthly for your wanted file. If you don't see it, check again. There is no promise that it can or will be found.

3. "I can't play the file you sent" (or I downloaded)

a. First make sure you have 'unzipped' the .zip file. We use WinZip and Windows XP's zip tools to compress the .wav and a same-named .txt file. All files are shipped that way. You would need PKUNZIP.exe or something like WinZip for Windows to extract if you do not have Windows XP or later. Windows XP can handle .zip files like they are folders - just open and copy the .wav file out.

b. Make sure your player supports Microsoft MPEG Layer-3 format. All files are in that format. WinAmp no longer supports this format by default.
Email me about a work-around but warning: it is not for the weak.

If you are not using Windows XP or 2000 you made need to update some of the code your computer uses. You can request file L3CODEC1.ZIP with my request form which was developed by SoundAmerica to update your Win9x/WinNt system Or Check out the "Can You Play These Sounds" area on the main page at SoundAmerica where you will find this 177k file on-line. If that page is too busy, try mine at < A HREF = play.html> this site.

If you are a Windows 95/98/NT/2000 user you can try and download Microsoft's Media Player from their main site. It is very large in size - however it sets you up to play nearly every possible type of sound or movie file!

4. "The sound files are corrupt after unzipping"

a. See Item 3. b. - that covers 99% of this.

b. Sometimes there is line noise and the transmission is messed with. Neither you or I have control of this. Just download the file again. If it is still 'corrupt' please do let me know. Files have gone bad in the past!

5. "I can't download a file because it is not a link"

a. On our On-line site, only the TV and Cartoon Themes are offered on-line. Go to The Themes Listing to start your journey.
or
b. Go to SoundAmerica (http://soundamerica.com ) - Many of the older .wav part of the files are on-line there. You will find nearly 7,000 theme files ready to download and tens of thousands of other sounds. Just watch out for the pop-ups.

Note: Please note that I do not run SoundAmerica and I have zero control or input to how it is ran. Scott is just kind enough to donate the space for the themes he chooses to upload there!

c. Many files in the archive are the product of hard work by JC over at EarthStation1. Since all of his files are on-line anyway, they were NOT copied to SoundAmerica also. This saves SoundAmerica some time and helps give JC his well deserved credit. His site is a must to check out on a regular basis.

d. Look on my main homepage under 'credits' and check out those sites. They all have some files to offer, many are from this archive or the files in the archive are from them! And if you know of a site that offers free downloads of TV Themes, let me know and they may get listed as well.

e. I usually have hundreds of the newer themes on-line on my "What's New" page are on-line. Just click on the File Name on the left of the chart. As long as the files are listed on the "What's New" page, they will be available for free downloading. (even movie/related)

f. Get into the USENET Newsgroups. We have a base of operations there called alt.binaries.sounds.tv-themes
where dozens of fellow fans stand ready with what they have to share. Related groups include alt.binaries.sounds.tv for clips,
alt.binaries.sounds.tv-commercials - Do I really have to say what that group is for?
There's also:
alt.binaries.sounds.cartoons,
alt.binaries.sounds.movies and
alt.binaries.sounds.wav.

g. Maybe I 'fat-fingered' the code on the web-page. Let me know and I'll check it out.

6. "There is some kind of error when I try to download"

a. If you get something about a password - There are no passwords on any file on any site we operate. If you are getting such a message, it's from your end. I only test with MS Internet Explorer and they all work. Since well over 2.5 million downloads happen every month, I'm guessing it must work for some. Could be a problem with file association (.zip) or security settings in your firewall, anti-virus and/or web browser.

b. If you get the error: "Nope! You ain't gonna steal bandwidth from here!" - that means you are trying to do a 'normal' file save with a right-mouse-click and "save target as". This is disabled on the site. Just do a "LEFT-MOUSE-CLICK" like you were following a normal link and you should be prompted to "OPEN - SAVE - CANCEL" (Choose SAVE). If you still get that error, see 6. a. above as this does work for Microsoft Internet Explorer right out of the box, and that's all that is supported.

c. See 5. b. 'Note' - I don't control any of the downloadable sites except for my own - just check your software or try again later.

d. If the problem is on WaveThemes pages, let me know. (404 File Not Found) I can not count the number of times I have "Fat Fingered" a filename and messed up the link or forgot to upload the file. You will find my email address at the bottom of the main page.

7. "I have a (fill in the blank) computer, not a Windows XXX based system and I cannot play this sound file.

a. I cannot help you. I DO have a Windows 95/98/2000/NT/XP computer and the sound files play fine for me. I have zero experience with other computers and I am not looking into working with any others. Check other Sound Pages, some do have solutions.

b. Remember the name of this site - WAVE Themes Homepage. That is the ONLY format supported here. No .mid, .au, .ra or whatever. You are more than welcomed to take and convert all the files you want. Thousands do every month! We DO NOT store or send files in any format other than 11kHz, mono, 16-bit Wave format. These are SAMPLES! Not replacements for purchased CDs. See our Copyright Information page for more information.

c. "I use Firefox, Netscape, or some other cute little browser and there's a problem downloading". Good for you! I don't use them or support them. Next question?

IMPORTANT: If you are like me and come from the local BBS community of the 1980s then you have some adjustments to make. There are not 100's of people you have access to - but 10's of MILLIONS! Your cute personal letter sent asking for themes by name rather than filenames or your request for something I don't have or your general comments was just one of possibly a thousand messages I got that week... how long would it take you to read and answer all that? I again state that I do this as a hobby. I am a family man with children, a working man and I should be retired since I did so from the Air Force. I am also now working with a bum ticker and have to be careful in diet, stress and amount of work. And somewere in all this I am still trying to locate or record new themes for our pleasure!

Above all - don't take this Theme stuff so serious - Let's have fun! Sooner or later the lawyers will shut me down anyway! (like they did Patrick Kenny and a few others!)
